Nelson Mandela Day 2023

On July 18, Nelson Mandela’s birthday, South Africans are asked to perform 67 minutes of community service. The initiative aims to honor Madiba’s legacy of devotion and service to others by demonstrating our dedication to improving the country as we pool our resources to strengthen our local communities

Nelson Mandela said, “It’s in your hands to make the world a better place”. Harvest Floor spent their 67 minutes of community service at Mamagola Primary School in Mogalakwena.  We received so much support from different partners that share the same values as Harvest Floor.  Each student received a box of food parcels.  This box was sponsored by Pele Energy Group which said that gratitude was the driving force of this initiative.  Hungry Lion sponsored our event with 150 lunch meals that catered to everybody.  Roman’s Pizza sponsored our feeding scheme project and donated 3x 10kg mealie meal, 3x 10 kg mince and 3×10 chicken. Lastly, our teacher recognition programme sponsors were Bathu who donated sneakers worth R25 200.

The event was graced with the Kgosi of the area, the school governing body, and Thobela FM which made the highlight of the day as they did outside broadcasting at the school.  The day was filled with so many poems and singing from the schoolchildren.  The principal was overwhelmed with joy that her school was the chosen one.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors and media hosts that made this day special.  Although we all know that it’s Mandela day every day for Harvest Floor we give consistently and take care of all our four schools in Mogalakwena.
